Common traits of flawed definitions

This is the first article in a sequence about intelligence.

Many flawed definitions of intelligence have one or more of the following flaws:

  • inclusion of unnecessary elements

  • lack of generality

  • circular terminology

  • anthropocentric bias

  • confusing measurement with the concept itself

  • lack of clarity

In the next article, I list and criticize specific definitions of intelligence.

Note: I am aware this article might feel like only an outline. I try to make each article consist of a defined chunk of information. The content here, though compact, feels like it has a reasonable boundary.
